About The VCDKK (Vereinigter CanAm Deutsch Kurzhaar Club)
Many friends of the hunting Deutsch Kurzhaar (DK) in North American and Germany, including breeders, owners and versatile hunting dog judges expressed an interest in forming a Deutsch Kurzhaar club that would exclusively embrace the German traditions of breed purity and testing. To that end in December of 2006 a Deutsch Kurzhaar Breed Club was established that exemplifies the spirit and intent of the German breeding and testing system for the Deutsch Kurzhaar.
The VCDKK is the ONLY Deutsch Kurzhaar Club in North America that truly exemplifies and embraces the spirit and intent of a performance based breeding system. While other North American Kurzhaar clubs and some Kurzhaar breeders may express an allegiance to the German performance based breeding system of the DKV, It is a fact that many participate in unrestricted breeding of untested dogs of other registrations.
Members and breeders of the VCDKK hold the Deutsch Kurzhaar breed in the highest esteem as evidenced by their adherence to breeding restrictions that are part of the VCDKK bylaws and are strictly enforced. We are the only Deutsch Kurzhaar club in North America that does not practice and condone unrestricted breeding to untested Kurzhaars, and in some cases German Shorthaired Pointers (GSP’s) that are now considered by many to be a completely different breed from the versatile hunting Kurzhaar.
The focus of the VCDKK is to promote the Deutsch Kurzhaar (DK) through proven and established performance testing and breeding practices in order to preserve the integrity of one of the worlds’ premier versatile hunting companions.
Under the umbrella of the DKV, the VCDKK adheres and abides by the strict testing rules of the Jagdgebrauchshundverband e. V. (JGHV) and has drafted by-laws that reflect and emphasize breeding regulations and practices that are important to the consistent development of a capable and biddable versatile hunting dog. A copy of those bylaws is available on this website and at the VCDKK website: www.canamdk.com
The VCDKK executive board and many VCDKK members have years of experience and a broad spectrum of knowledge with respect to the training, testing and hunting of the DK. Many of them are intimately familiar with and practice the breeding strategies that have successfully evolved the versatile hunting Deutsch Kurzhaar.
The VCDKK welcomes hunters who are experienced DK supporters and novice members alike. In fact, If you are a licensed hunter who wishes to support our breed you are welcome in the VCDKK. The VCDDK prides itself on making every effort to aid its members by offering as many training and testing opportunities as possible.
The versatile hunting DK is our pride and our passion and we will make every effort to maintain the true versatility of the DK breed. In addition we steadfastly abide by the time tested and proven performance testing program of the DKV. The VCDKK follows the letter the well established German testing and breeding system that is intended to consistently produce the most capable versatile hunting companion that any serious hunter would be proud to live with and hunt by.

In addition to the VCDKK I also belong to the Verien Deutsch Drahthaar Group North America (VDD-GNA) commonly referred to by Kurzhaar owners as the DD Group. The DD group functions under the umbrella of the JGHV and emphasizes and protects breed purity and the German performance based breeding system.
I have found that the DD folks are a great group of family oriented people and are very willing to offer assistance to those Deutsch Kurzhaar owners that are dedicated to the German performance based breeding and testing system. In fact many of the Drahthaar test formats are identical to that for the Kurzhaar and may be substituted for some of the test required by the DKV for the Deutsch Kurzhaar.
For that reason I have included a link to the VDD-GNA on this website and listed the names of DD breeders that I know and trust. The benefits of belonging to the VDD-GNA are similar to those listed for the VCDKK along with an expanded array of training and testing opportunities. It is to the advantage of any Deutsch Kurzhaar owner to belong to both the VCDKK and the VDD-GNA so I recommend and encourage membership in both groups. |
